Casa Madre Somasca
Arriving at Somasca, the first thing that strikes you is the white Basilica at the top, overlooking the village with its grandeur.
The name of the Mother House clearly says originality: it is the first community of the Congregation that goes back directly to the Founder. In 1534 Jerome Somasca chose as his home and place of coordination of the Company that was born and developed around him and to its charitable mission. Since then the Congregation never left this place where we preserve the relics and admire the places sanctified by him.
Today the Mother House, in addition to guarding the shrine of the founder of pilgrimage, is home to the Novitiate for Europe and welcomes the years ahead brothers or debilitated by the disease that can no longer carry out pastoral activity.
The Basilica is surrounded by gardens and a large yard where pilgrims can leave your car for free.
For the handicapped, strollers and wheelchairs, access to the Basilica is facilitated by some ramps.
At the Basilica it is accessed by climbing a long, wide staircase. There is in front of the facade elegantly adorned with a portico with five arches from which you can enjoy a wide view of the country Somasca and lake below
