1. Fondazione Somaschi ONLUS: a non-profit foundation for minors
Within the Emiliani Institute, the Fondazione Somaschi ONLUS operates the service called PROGETTO INSIEME (Together Project): it includes two educational communities, a day-care center and a housing for the individual autonomy, which are foreseen for male minors and boys just over the age of majority, who live a fragile situation, social unrest and ill-treatment.
Progetto Insieme 1 and Progetto Insieme 2: they are two residential communities for minors (6-17 y.o.), whose stay within their own family circle has been recognized as unfit, in order to make sure their alimony, education and instruction.
La Villetta is a a small house for boys just over the age of majority who may not return to their source environment and who need a further educational support. It is essential for us to help them to integrate into the workplace and to live by themselves.
The Meeting Center: minor of either sex, who have been recommended by individuals or by Social Services, who need personalized educational projects. It is an afternoon service and it foresees study and play times as well as workshops. During the summer, it is used as summer center and it has a whole day program. http://www.fondazionesomaschi.it/?portfolio_page=progetto-insieme
2. Italian school for foreigners
The voluntary association “Adelphos” has as its objective the promotion of the integration and the friendship between different cultures. In conjunction with the Somascan Fathers it organizes each year a free Italian language course for foreigners at the Emiliani Institute. Two levels are foreseen: one basic course for absolute beginners and one advanced course for those who already have some knowledge of the Italian language; for those who take the second one it is possible to prepare themselves to sit a CILS (Certification of Italian as a Foreign Language) exam.
3. The Buon Samaritano Project
The Buon Samaritano (Good Samaritan) project arose in 2013 and intends to reduce food waste from recovery of food coming from the tourist accommodation in this area and its distribution to those in need. Many actors take part in this project: hotels and bakeries in the area (meals donations), the Volontari del Soccorso di Sant’Anna (transport) and other different voluntary associations (distribution), the Centro Emiliani (Emiliani Center, where meals are distributed), the ASL 4 (health authority, for regulatory information), the Municipality of Rapallo (reporting the needy families), and other professionals.
4. Food and garments distribution to the poor
The association “Gli Ultimi” (The Last) was founded in 1995, when a voluntary group of sensitive citizens of Rapallo from different social, political and religious backgrounds, decided to work towards homeless. The name they chose is already an important signal of the program guiding the association. Now as it was then, these volunteers seek to help bums, vagrants, immigrants and those who have been left without personal means and resources. Today, the association, which is located in the Emiliani Institute in Rapallo, distributes foodstuffs, blankets and clothing to needy families and to homeless.
